If you are interested in showing work at The FORD Studios, below you will find a full calendar of shows for  2024.  These are group shows curated by Artist R.L. (Rachel) Gibson, two of which are by invitation only.  If you are looking for representation, and your work does not fall into any of the curatorial themes below, feel free to contact us anyway -- by email or via Facebook or Instagram.  We are always interested.

    POST IT: Sticky Art of Note (March 2024)

    • Enter the POST-IT show at The FORD Studios in Downtown Marion, Virginia!
      ENTRY DEADLINE:  All work must arrive by February 24, 2024.  The earlier you enter, the better your placement will be in the show.
    • ENTRY FEE:  There is no entry fee, nor any participation fee.  The only cost to artists is the shipping of accepted work to the gallery.  Artwork that does not sell will only be returned if the artist provides a self-addressed, stamped envelope. Otherwise, work will be bagged & tagged and available for customers via a print bin.
    • MEDIA:  All work must be done on a standard 3"x3" Post-It Note.  Work can be 3-dimensional, but it both must fit within the height & width of the sticky note and be able to be supported by the built in adhesive. We recommend that you use the "super sticky" version of the brand name note as all art will be stuck to the gallery wall with the attached adhesive. All signatures must be on the BACK of the artwork. A limit of 5 pieces per person will be accepted.
    • SALES:  For the purpose of this show, all work will sell for $10 each. The FORD Studios retains 35% commission ($3.50) and pays on or around the 20th of the month following the sale, April 2024 in this case.
    • SHOW RUN:  March 1 - 30, 2024
    • RECEPTION:  Friday, March 1, 2024
    • JURORS:  Artwork will not be juried for content or composition; however, we reserve the right not to include work at our discretion for issues of poor condition, damage, hate speech, etc.

    Enter the IKIGAI show at The FORD Studios in Downtown Marion, VA

    IKIGAI: The Joy of Little Things (April/May 2024)

    • ENTRY DEADLINE: March 10, 2024.  Work will be accepted on a rolling basis.  Once the show is full, the call will be ended; therefore, early entry is recommended.
    • ENTRY FEE:  There is no entry fee, nor any participation fee.  The only cost to artists is the shipping of accepted work to the gallery.
    • SHOW RUN:  April 5 - May 18, 2024
    • RECEPTION:  Friday, April 5, 2024
    • MEDIA:  We are open to any physical media; however, we are not equipped for digital media or digital installations.  All work for this show must be 12" x 12" or smaller.  We encourage artists in recovery to participate; however, it is not a requirement for participation, and you are not required to identify yourself as being in recovery unless you independently choose to include that information in your artist statement.
    • THEME:  Ikigai (生き甲斐, lit. 'a reason for being') is a Japanese concept referring to something that gives a person a sense of purpose, a reason for living.  Whether big or small, your ikigai is the path to success and happiness in your own life.  We invite you to submit work that contemplates the Joy of Little Things by submitting smallworks, which in this instance will be defined as work that measures 12"x12" or smaller.
    • PARTNERSHIP:  In conjunction with this show, The FORD Studios is partnering with Mount Rogers Community Services and (h)Appys (a collaborative project between Mount Rogers Community Services and Mount Rogers Health District) that offers safe and sober places for folks in recovery and those who support them.  From April 2023 to April 2024 (h)Appys participants are endeavoring to find joy in little things by folding 1000 origami cranes from hand-illustrated paper for the front window of The FORD Studios. Traditionally, it was believed that if one folded 1,000 origami cranes (in Japanese, called “senbazuru”), one's wish would come true. It has also become a symbol of hope & healing during challenging times.
    • JURORS:  Your jurors will include Rachel Gibson (a mixed media artist & gallery director at The FORD Studios) & Ginny Moorer (Trauma Recovery Coordinator Mount Rogers Community Services).
    • SALES: The FORD Studios retains 35% commission and pays on or around the 20th of the month following the sale.

    ADMIXTURE: A Sum of the Parts (June/July 2024)

    • Enter the Admixture show at The FORD Studios in Downtown Marion, Virginia!
      ENTRY DEADLINE:  May 13, 2024
    • ENTRY FEE:  There is no entry fee, nor any participation fee.  The only cost to artists is the shipping of accepted work to the gallery.
    • SHOW RUN:  June 7 - July 27, 2024
    • RECEPTION:  Friday, June 7, 2024
    • MEDIA:  All media will be considered. We consider ourselves a smallworks gallery.  For our purposes, that means most (not all) work is 11"x14" or smaller.  Your chances are better if your work falls within our normal size parameters; however, don't let size prevent you from entering.
    • THEME:  Layers.  This show traditionally would inspire collage submissions, and we DO welcome them.  However, we also want to encourage submissions from all media so long as they include OBVIOUS layering.  We are excited about mixed media work, fiber art & found-object assemblage where layering is intrinsic to the work.
    • JURORS:  Your jurors will include Rachel Gibson (a mixed media artist & gallery director at The FORD Studios) & Jon Ives (a potter & artist-in-residence at The FORD Studios).
    • SALES: The FORD Studios retains 35% commission and pays on or around the 20th of the month following the sale.

      FANTASTIC: A Surrealist Dream (August 2024)

      • CALL for ENTRIES:  FANTASTIC:  A Surrealist Dream
        ENTRY DEADLINE:  July 8, 2024
      • ENTRY FEE:  There is no entry fee, nor any participation fee.  The only cost to artists is the shipping of accepted work to the gallery by July 15, 2024.
      • SHOW RUN:  August 2 - 31, 2024
      • RECEPTION:  Friday, August 2, 2024
      • MEDIA:  All media will be considered. We consider ourselves a smallworks gallery.  For our purposes, that means most (not all) work is 11"x14" or smaller.  Your chances are better if your work falls within our normal size parameters; however, don't let size prevent you from entering.
      • THEME:  Surrealism is a cultural movement that developed in Europe in the aftermath of World War I (approx. 1920) in which artists depicted unnerving, illogical scenes and developed techniques to allow the unconscious mind to express itself. (WikipediaWe are open to a wide range of interpretation.
      • JURORS:  Your jurors will include Rachel Gibson (a mixed media artist & gallery director at The FORD Studios) & Jon Ives (a potter & artist-in-residence at The FORD Studios).
      • SALES: The FORD Studios retains 35% commission and pays on or around the 20th of the month following the sale.

      NOT NEARLY NUDE: A Burlesque Pastiche (Sept / Oct 2024)

      • ENTRY FEE:  There is no entry fee, nor any participation fee.  The only cost to artists is the shipping of accepted work to the gallery by August 12, 2024.
      • SHOW RUN:  Sept 6 - Oct 26, 2024
      • RECEPTION:  Friday, September 6, 2024
      • MEDIA:  All media will be considered. We consider ourselves a smallworks gallery.  For our purposes, that means most (not all) work is 11"x14" or smaller.  Your chances are better if your work falls within our normal size parameters; however, don't let size prevent you from entering.  We are open to recordings of actual burlesque performances or inclusion of elements of those performances, but equipment for that playback must be included.
      • THEME:  Burlesque. We are open to wide interpretation of the theme, but for our purposes we are looking for bawdy humor, comedy or parody that can be, but is not required to be of a sexual nature.  Retro or nostalgic approaches and/or aesthetics are appreciated, but not required.
      • JURORS:  Your jurors will include Rachel Gibson (a mixed media artist & gallery director at The FORD Studios) & Jon Ives (a potter & artist-in-residence at The FORD Studios).
      • SALES: The FORD Studios retains 35% commission and pays on or around the 20th of the month following the sale.

      VILLAGE de NOËL: A Christmas Market (Nov / Dec 2024)

      Join us for "Village de Noël" a dream-like Christmas market at The FORD Studios in Downtown Marion, VA.
      • INQUIRY DEADLINE:  October 1, 2024.  We are accepting inquiries for inclusion in our Christmas Market through this date.  The early you inquire, the more likely you are to be included.
      • ENTRY FEE:  There is no entry fee, nor any participation fee.  The only cost to artists is the shipping of accepted work to the gallery by October 21, 2024.
      • SHOW RUN:  Nov 19 - Dec 22
      • RECEPTION:  We will be throwing a “Market Opening” which will also serve as our 4-year anniversary party on Friday, November 22, 2024 complete with live music, food & drinks.
      • MEDIA:  All physical media will be considered. We consider ourselves a smallworks gallery.  For our purposes, that means most (not all) work is 11"x14" or smaller.  Your chances are better if your work falls within our normal size parameters; however, don't let size prevent you from entering.  We are looking primarily for gift-sized and priced items.
      • THEME:  We are re-creating an outdoor European Christmas Market inside the gallery complete with themed market stalls, dozens of snow-flecked trees, overhead string lights and more.  Market stalls will have work combined in loosely held themes, some by historical country or area, some by media type, etc.   
      • JURORS:  Your jurors will include Rachel Gibson (a mixed media artist & gallery director at The FORD Studios) & Jon Ives (a potter & artist-in-residence at The FORD Studios).
      • SALES: The FORD Studios retains 35% commission and pays on or around the 20th of the month following the sale.
